The Board met June 27th and made the decision to offer a free lunch for the July meeting.   This decision requires member approval and this will be presented at the meeting for approval.  The normal Acteva registration process is open, and will close Wednesday July 16th at 10 AM CDT.   To receive a free lunch, you must:

  1. Be a full member in good standing and eligible to vote.
  2. Register via Acteva prior to Wednesday July 16th a 10 AM.

Guests and student members may attend, but will have to pay normal fees and will not be permitted to take part in the election.  The purpose of this meeting is the election, and approval of chapter business.  Please make every attempt to attend, but also remember the chapter is going out on a limb here - if a bunch of people do not show after registering, the chapter pays the bill and the chapter money is the member's money.  This free lunch is to encourage people to show up and vote, please do not abuse this courtesy.

About the Speakers

Freeman Mendell, First Assistant – I.T. Systems, Galveston County Auditor’s Office

Mr. Mendell has been involved for the past 12 years in Business Continuity Planning for Galveston County, specializing in Financial Systems recovery.   He has taken 8 of the DHS National Incident Management System courses in Disaster Response and Recovery.  Mr. Mendell has been certified by the Department of Homeland Security as a Weapons of Mass Destruction Instructor. He has spoken at numerous conferences on Business Continuity Planning, particularly as it relates to the interface between local government and business. Because of his knowledge of local government procedures and responsibilities, he offers a unique perspective on Emergency Response and Disaster Recovery.

Iris Speier, Project Manager - IT Security, Spectra Energy Corp.

Iris has operational responsibilities for managing her department’s Business Continuity Plan and coordinating the company’s response to information security incidents.   Previously Iris was the Business Continuity Manager at Duke Energy and managed business continuity planning, IT security operations, and regulatory compliance for Shell Information Technology International’s global operations. 

Iris currently serves as Program Director of the Association of Contingency Planners (ACP), South Texas Chapter.  She has also served as the Vice President of InfraGard Houston and received a commendation by Robert Mueller, Director of the FBI, for her contributions to this organization.

Lillibett Machado - Consultant

Lillibett has 25 years experience in the Manufacturing Industry on Information Technology Management and Quality Systems complemented with 8 years in the Banking Industry on Technology Governance & Risk, and Business Continuity Management. Currently, Lillibett has been involved on multiple projects for the Energy, Chemical, Aerospace and Banking industries. The projects focused on the areas of Business Continuity Planning, Governance and Risk Management using DRI principals, CobIT and ITIL Service Management.  As Vice President of Technology Risk Management for Amegy Bank, Lillibett was the leader in creating the Corporate Business Continuity framework and coordinated crisis management teams.  

Panel Led by:

Harvey Nusz is owner of 4IT Security, Governance & Compliance.  In addition to his services in the IT Security, Compliance, and Audit arenas, he was the Disaster Recovery Architect for a division of a large energy firm.  In that role, he built and led teams in building, testing, and maintaining DR/BC Plans for a large UNIX/Windows system and he led virtual teams of subsidiaries to build and test plans.
